because roz does not open until the afternoon on weekends it can be hard to get coffee and a good study spot. newcomb cafe was started to fill that gap. Newcomb is the name of the first psychology professor at bennington. it is also the name of the house in which newcomb cafe resides. Newcomb inspires my work in research. both Newcomb and I see bennington as a unique place where a vibrant moment in adolecence can be observed in the context of national and global politics. Newcomb studied the radicalizing of affluent women in their time in the early days at bennington. I study the queering of queers in their time in present day bennington. throughout the last ninety someodd years two things has remained true. bennington is a special place and coffee is good.

chill out! newcomb is a wellness house. we have a neighborhood agreement to be fucking chill. so please do not be loud or cause problems because I will be upset okay. this also means no substances. if you have trouble not being under the influence between nine and one on weekends please seek help. you have a problem. About Our Pay What You Can Policy
good coffee often comes with a serious price gouge. and while workers deserve a living wage many baristas do not see the prices reflected in their income. newcomb cafe prices are determined on material cost alone. this means I come out net zero. if that is all you can afford I understand. if you are able to pay even a few cents more it can help me keep this practice sustainable. if I hit a point where my finances feel good I will change to a model in which profit goes to a good cause. this will likely be a family in Gaza. for now I need to test out the sustainablility of this model and my wallet. thank you for being part of the funding of newcomb cafe.
